Welcome to the Department of Engineering Technology!
A degree in Engineering Technology
A career in Engineering
The department’s early beginnings in technology education can be traced back to the turn of the 20th century in programs leading to degrees in Industrial Arts through the 1970’s. The decade of the 1980’s marked the start of new B.S. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Technology Education and a new B.S. in Industrial Technology degree with concentrations in Construction, in Electronics, in Industrial Graphics, in Manufacturing, and in Nuclear Technology. Since the early 1990’s, the Department of Engineering Technology (ETEC) at the University of North Texas continues to prepare productive citizens, leaders, and technology innovators in a global society. Now, our TAC/ABET accredited programs lead to B.S. degrees in Construction, Electrical, Mechanical, and Nuclear ETEC while building strong ties with regional industry, government agencies, alumni, and the community at large. Our M.S. in Engineering Systems offers concentrations in Construction Management, in Engineering Management, in Electrical Systems and in Mechanical Systems, as well as a dual MSES/MBA track in collaboration with the College of Business. Consistent with UNT’s first bold goal, the faculty strives to achieve the highest quality in the design and delivery of our undergraduate and graduate programs.
Departmental programs emphasize the application of theoretical concepts, innovation and business processes using carefully coordinated laboratory experiences and lectures. The word "technology" is used to include appropriate hardware specific to any engineering discipline; software such as CAD/CAM; or an abstract design technique or an algorithm described in a textbook, a patent, or any other scholarly publication. Therefore, an education in ETEC is naturally engaging, translational, and applied.
Research in ETEC is led primarily by short-to medium-term industry needs, and entails the systematic application of advanced science, engineering, and mathematics to synthesize an implementable solution to a problem of industrial relevance using known or emerging technology. Our laboratories are well equipped to provide the upmost in learning environments for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Our graduates are actively recruited by technical firms and businesses as well as by renowned graduate schools nationwide to pursue graduate degrees. With over 1200 proud alumni holding technology degrees, we measure our success by the success of our graduates.
Thank you for visiting and let us know how we are doing!
